Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker hailed his performance as the best of his career after inspiring his team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Despite PSG dominating with 27 shots to Liverpool’s two, substitute Harvey Elliott struck just 47 seconds after coming on in the 87th minute to snatch a stunning away win.
PSG manager Luis Enrique argued that Ibrahima Konaté should have been sent off, but his side had plenty of chances and found Alisson in unbeatable form.
“It was probably the performance of my life,” the Brazil No. 1 admitted. “The manager told us how hard it would be, how good PSG are with the ball, and that we would have to suffer. We knew what was coming. We gave away so many chances, but the team’s effort made my job easier. Then Harvey coming in and scoring—it’s a great story, a great night.”
Legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was full of praise, calling it “one of the best goalkeeping displays I’ve ever seen.”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot echoed the sentiment, saying: “I’ve had some very good players as a manager, but never the best goalkeeper in the world—until now. He showed today why he is the best. To come away with a win here was probably more than we deserved. We were lucky, that’s clear. PSG were the much better team, especially in the first half with three or four huge chances.”
Match-winner Elliott was left in awe of Alisson’s heroics. “I have no words. He’s unbelievable, the best in the world. He keeps us in so many games, like tonight. It was my opportunity to repay him. Without him, I don’t know where we’d be,” he said.
Liverpool’s defensive resilience, led by Alisson’s masterclass, gives them a crucial advantage heading into the second leg.
