Oni Oluwadamilare, fondly known as “Dino,” has revealed that former England international Joe Hart played a pivotal role in shaping his goalkeeping career.
The talented shot-stopper for Ibadan-based Adeyemi FC opened up about his journey in football, highlighting the challenges he faced and the dedication that has kept him going.
A Tough Start, But an Unwavering Passion
“Choosing goalkeeping as a career was difficult, especially with the lack of support from parents for sports, particularly football. However, with dedication and determination, I saw it as an opportunity that could open doors for me. The journey hasn’t been easy, but my focus remains on pushing forward despite the obstacles,” Oni shared.
Joe Hart: A Source of Inspiration
Oni spoke highly of Joe Hart, crediting the former Manchester City and England goalkeeper for inspiring his style of play.
“Joe Hart has been a major influence on me. His experience, composure, and ability to pull off brilliant saves have inspired me a lot. Watching him play gave me the belief that I could also reach great heights in goalkeeping,” he added.
The Reality of Being a Goalkeeper
Nicknamed Dino by his teammates, Oni acknowledged the unique challenges that come with being a goalkeeper.
“Unlike outfield players, goalkeepers often have to wait longer for their opportunities. Sometimes, you might not even make the squad, and if you dwell on that, it can break your confidence. A goalkeeper must stay determined and focused at all times,” he noted.
He also stressed the importance of rigorous training, mental strength, and confidence in excelling as a goalkeeper.
Adeyemi FC: A Platform for Growth
Oni described his current club, Adeyemi FC, as an excellent platform for development and career progression.
“Joining Adeyemi FC has been a great opportunity for me. The club has a clear vision and strong plans for its players. I’m honored to work under Coach Drey, who has a deep understanding of the game. Winning the IFC League with the team was a big achievement, and I look forward to more success,” he said.
Aspirations and Advice for Young Goalkeepers
Looking ahead, Oni dreams of representing Nigeria at the national level, a goal he remains committed to achieving.
For aspiring goalkeepers, his advice is simple: “Stay determined, stay focused, and never give up. Success in goalkeeping requires patience, hard work, and perseverance.”
With his work ethic, passion, and inspiration from Joe Hart, Oni Oluwadamilare is on a path to making a name for himself in Nigerian football.
