Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, took a big step towards qualification for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup with a 3-1 victory over South Africa in Pretoria.
The visitors settled quickly, with Shakirat Moshood opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Harmony Chidi doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute, giving Nigeria a comfortable first-half advantage.
South Africa responded early in the second half, converting a penalty in the 47th minute, but Chidi struck again in the 68th minute to restore Nigeria’s two-goal cushion.
The Flamingos will host the return leg next week in Ikenne, with the winners advancing to the final round of qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, set to take place from October 17 to November 5.
