Manchester City Women have parted ways with head coach Gareth Taylor, bringing an end to his five-year tenure at the club.
Taylor’s departure comes just a day after leading City to a 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Aston Villa, securing a semi-final clash against Manchester United.
City currently sit fourth in the Women’s Super League (WSL), one point behind third-placed Arsenal, albeit having played a game more, and trailing league leaders Chelsea by 12 points.
The 52-year-old took charge in 2020, guiding City to an FA Cup triumph in his first season and a League Cup title in 2022. Under his leadership, City narrowly missed out on the 2023/24 WSL title to Chelsea on goal difference.
Taylor’s exit comes ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, starting with the Women’s League Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday, the first of four meetings against the unbeaten WSL leaders in 12 days.
Former City coach Nick Cushing will step in as interim manager for the remainder of the season.
