The Ekiti State Wushu Kung Fu Association officially inaugurated its new members today, Wednesday, in a vibrant ceremony held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium Board Room. The event marked a significant step forward for the development of the martial art in the state, reflecting a growing commitment to sports under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the association, Hon. Dele Owoju, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Oyebanji, widely recognized for his passion for sports, and Dr. (Mrs.) Olusola Osetoba, the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Sports Development, for their unwavering support. Welcoming the newly inducted members, Owoju emphasized the association’s dedication to elevating Wushu Kung Fu in Ekiti State. “We will conduct evaluations to address challenges facing the sport and ensure its growth,” he stated, urging the new members to embrace their roles with enthusiasm and achieve greatness in their responsibilities.
Owoju outlined ambitious projections for the year, including participation in the Premier League and the upcoming National Sports Festival. He also highlighted plans to nurture grassroots talent and seek support from individuals and organizations passionate about sports development. “Our goal is to see Ekiti become a hub for Wushu Kung Fu, producing talents that will shine on national and international stages,” he added.
The ceremony was graced by the Secretary General of the Nigeria Wushu Kung Fu Federation, who traveled from Abuja to witness the occasion. Hailing from Otun Ekiti, the Secretary General expressed pride in his home state’s strides in the sport. “It’s thrilling to see Ekiti’s progress in Kung Fu. I look forward to the day when talents from this state make their mark globally,” he remarked, commending the association’s efforts and the state government’s investment in sports infrastructure.
Representing Dr. Olusola Osetoba, the Special Adviser on Sports Development, Hon. Kolawole Samuel, praised the association’s initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering the growth of Wushu Kung Fu. “The Oyebanji administration is fully behind this sport and others, as we believe they are vital for youth development and community engagement,” he assured the gathering.
The newly inaugurated members include Mr. Alla J.K., Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, and Mrs. Adeusi Ronke Rosemary, who were warmly welcomed into their roles. The event also saw the presence of key figures from the Ekiti State Sports Commission, including Agbeleye Yinka (Director of Organizing, Sports Commission), Ogundele Mayowa, Afolabi Anjorin, Adewunmi Adekunle, and Ayangbemi John. The team’s coach, Ronke Raji, and the association’s secretary, Adebusuyi R.F., were also in attendance.
