Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been commended for top class infrastructure that have been put in place for development of sports in the state.
The Chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed made the commendation while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday March 19, 2025.
Hajji Gafar stated that, the state have pitches virtually in all the Local Government Areas, as the young boys go into school being monitored and supervised, stressing that the FA is doing everything possible to have more pitches in all the Local Government Areas of the state.
“We have field virtually in all the schools in our Local Government Areas, and in Lagos alone we have about 15, 000 schools, 9000 public schools and about 5000 private schools. So the young boys go into these schools monitored, supervised and they play”.
The CEO/Chairman of 36 Lions of Lagos, also stated that, Mini stadium was recently commissioned in Elagbata in Lagos Island, noting that there about five stadia will be opened between now and end of May this year.
“Recently we just commissioned a mini stadium at Elagbata in Lagos Island and there will be about five more stadia ready opening very soon between now and end of May so it’s win win situation for us”
A valued member of Illinois State Soccer Association, Chicago USA since 2005, Gafar was very optimistic that stadium and infrastructures situation in Lagos will get better due to the love the Governor has for the development of sports in the state.
“We are very very optimistic that infrastructure situation, stadium situation in Lagos will get better”
Hajji Gafar, while commenting on the readiness of Agege Stadium, noted that the renovation is ongoing as the grasses and artificial turfs have been laid and in eight weeks time it will be ready.
“Agege stadium is ongoing, the grasses and the artificial turfs have been laid as we speak and I believe between now and maximum eight weeks Agege stadium should come back”
He disclosed that the Teslim Balogun Stadium is undergoing massive renovation and assured that the governor is very particular about the stadium hoping that when the renovation is completed, the Super Eagles will be back to Lagos.
“Yes Teslim Balogun Stadium is undergoing massive renovation and then we know that the governor is very very particular about Teslim we are hoping to bring Super Eagles back to Lagos”
